Lesson 3: Eco Friendly

ABOUT

How Sudsies is the most eco-friendly dry cleaners in Florida.

At Sudsies, there are many things that make us the most eco-friendly dry cleaners in the State. From our hanger recycling program made from recycled material, to our facilities being fully equipped with all energy efficient LED lighting. We use an automated packaging state of the art equipment that is able to cut the plastic bags to the length of short garments to minimize the use of unnecessary plastic bags, although they’re made of recycled material.

We’re a proud member of the Green Cleaners Council with a 5 leaf status, the highest rating in all of Florida! Awarded the Green Cleaners Council Award for over 10 years in a row! Look up greencleanerscouncil.org.

In our dry-cleaning solvent of choice, we use a Hydrocarbon base solvent called DF 2000. We have a wet cleaning department, different than laundry, it is the alternative to dry cleaning and uses the same process endorsed by the EPA Design for the Environment program (DFE), with energy-and-water-efficient state of the art equipment, biodegradable and hypoallergenic detergents and softeners.

01

What is wet cleaning?

We are very proud to offer our eco-friendly wet cleaning service.  It is the greenest professional cleaning process available, and the method recommended by the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, EDF, EPA’s Design for the Environment and the Green Cleaners Council as well as other highly regarded organizations.

02

How does Wet cleaning work?

It is a three-stage specialized process requiring expertly trained technicians to examine, test and process.  It uses sophisticated processing technology in conjunction with additives, conditioners and solutions.  It has all been especially developed for use with water to professionally clean certain garments, and then state of the art finishing equipment to relax and restore fibers so they fit, look and feel professionally processed.

03

What is the difference between me washing the garment at home and you wet cleaning it?

I had the same question when I first came here, but then I learned that the people in our Wet cleaning division have been professionally trained and certified after many hours of classroom and hands on study in fibers, fabrics, dyes, garment construction, testing, program selection and a host of other technical Wet cleaning skills they need.  In fact, they went all the way to the Fashion District in NYC for some of their training.

In addition, at home you don’t have the finishing equipment we have to relax and restore the garment’s fabrics after processing.

As you know, a home washer is designed to wash everything from heavy duty towels and play clothes to underwear.  It doesn’t have the kind of precise controls needed for professional processing, and the special stabilizing additives and conditioners we use are not available to consumers.

03

What additives are used?

Wet cleaning additives and solutions were scientifically developed to work in precise conditions at low water temperatures.  Wet cleaning can release the soils, minimize color loss, and restore the softness and smoothness.

We always use products that are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.

03

Does wet cleaning work on all garments?

Just as all garments cannot be dry cleaned not all garments should be wet cleaned. Our certified operators examine and test the garment before processing and based on their findings they determine what is the best process for each garment.
